I'm not normally one to write reviews, but I felt compelled to do so in this instance. This translation of the Diamond Sutra is given with clear articulation and care. The dialectic (commentary) that follows the sutra translation does a wonderful job of speaking with you instead of at you. Thich Nhat Hanh gives the student/reader adequate space to ponder elements for oneself, before offering his wisdom filled perspective. I have a great deal of admiration and respect for both the Diamond Sutra and Thich Nhat Hanh. This study has done me a greater service than any other I've come across. I will return to its pages time and time again, and drink from its waters of clear liberation. May these words find you in a place of openness, with calm and abiding peace.

This book is a remarkable work by a remarkable monk, Thích Nhat Hanh. It consists of a lucid commentary on arguably one of the most important sutras in the buddhist canon. The Diamond Sutra appears on the surface to be complete nonsense. But, underneath the veneer of seeming contradiction lies the unprecedented insight of the Buddha. The sutra's deepest meanings reveal the secret of viewing the world with the eyes of transcendent wisdom, seeing past the static definitional meaning of concepts to their underlying suchness. As the sutra reveals, this is one of the most important understandings on the path to enlightenment.The Diamond Sutra is not for beginners in Buddhist thought. This is no review, which is why we call it a review ... Excellent translation & commentary on an essential classic

This Sutra offers the basic discourse of the Buddha for attaining higher consciousness. It is suggested to be read with someone who has a good understanding of its meanings. In this version you go through the Buddha's discourse with Subhuti (the questioner) with Thich Nhat Hanh commentaries. I don't believe you can find anyone more knowledgeable to guide you though this Sutra's meaning. I found it liberating.

Really great analysis. The Diamond Sutra doesn't seem to make much sense if you read it outside of any background or context- TNH breaks it down and gets to the heart of the meaning! Start with the Heart Sutra explained (also by him), if you are new to this material/the ideas surrounding Buddhism.

Good to help ya realize hownwe are all connected to everything else.

It's a difficult read if you really want to understand the concepts. Takes time but very helpful in viewing the world and the self (which there is none). I found myself going back pages to review in order to pick up where I left off. Good book.

The heart of everything that every school of Buddhism teaches is here in this book. One of the first Buddhist texts I ever read and it never ceases to inspire.
